Awesome mountain biking in this area, whether it's old school mountain single track, lovingly crafted modern downhill runs, or just gentle family trails.
Length: various options (12.08 miles on the map link below)
No information would be complete without first talking about the infamous Cut Gate. Featured in Mountain Bike Ride (MBR) magazine’s 20 Best Mountain Bike UK Trails it’s the link between Langsett reservoir and Ladybower reservoir in Derbyshire.
Cut Gate can be ridden as a linear route, part of a massive circular route, or (as shown on the link below) a 12.08 mile route starting and finishing at Langsett Barn car park.
Grenoside (Greno) and Wharncliffe Woods
Located to the north of Sheffield, the trails at Grenoside (Greno) are the home training ground for the legendary Sheffield based downhill mountain biker, Steve Peat.
Over the years, much work has gone into the trails here and there is now a 5.3km sign posted red/black loop, with 3 professionally constructed downhill trails connected by fire road climbs.
Wharncliffe woods are close by and managed by the Forestry Commission. It’s a bigger area than Greno, steeper in places and often seen as more difficult. However, for those wanting some gnarly downhill, there are lots of runs along with the remnants of a XC loop (which can be difficult to follow without a local guide).
The Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is a coast to coast route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, stretching between Southport and Hornsea.
The existing route comes near to the café, but further work (expected to be completed by September 2017) is underway to build an off-road link for Langsett with the TPT. This will also include a link via Wharncliffe Woods, giving an off-road route to North Sheffield and the Peak District. ( We can't wait !)
